Cordova, AL – A public meeting is being held Monday night regarding a controversial plan in Walker County. The meeting will discuss a proposal being considered by officials in Cordova to allow Drummond Coal Mines to establish a mining operating on about 250 acres of property in the Dovertown area. The project would create mineral royalties for local coffers, but some residents say it will also wreck plans to develop the area and take advantage of its proximity to Interstate 22. Monday's meeting will be held at Cordova City Hall at 6-pm.
