Montgomery, AL – The state House has passed a bill that would let motorists choose the message on their license plates. They could choose either "God Bless America" or "Stars Fell on Alabama." That one is already on tags, but Representative Steve Hurst says it wouldn't cost extra money if drivers wanted "God Bless America" instead. Lawmakers also defeated a proposed amendment that would have removed the phrase "Heart of Dixie" from car tags. African American legislators argue the phrase is a reminder of the old South and is offensive. The bill now goes to the Senate.
