State's Oldest Newspaper Changes its Name

By Alabama Public Radio

Mobile, AL – The move reflects its new thrust into the southwest corner of the state. The new name recalls the date in 1932 when the two weekday newspapers, the Mobile Press and Mobile Register, combined into one Press-Register on weekends. The newspaper also announced some changes in its suburban editions and scaled back its daily stock market listings to a once-a-week Saturday summary of the week's trading. The Mobile Press Register has been in continuous publication since 1813 and is owned by Advance Publications.
