Montgomery, AL – State lawmakers are moving closer to passing legislation that would ensure overseas military personnel will be able to vote in the June 27th primary runoff. The House Constitution and Elections Committee passed a measure that would delay the primary runoffs until July 18, which would allow more time to print ballots, mail them overseas and have them returned. The bill approved today has already passed the Senate and should go before the full House tomorrow or Thursday. Lawmakers have been searching for a way to ensure voting rights for overseas soldiers after the state was threatened with a lawsuit by the U.S. Justice Department.
