West Point, GA – Kia Motors is now asking to delay the groundbreaking ceremony for its one-point-two billion dollar plant in western Georgia. The facility will be built very close to the Alabama state line, and there's hope Alabamians living in the area will be able to benefit from the plant. Kia requested the delay because prosecutors in South Korea are prohibiting Kia's president from leaving the country. He's caught up in a widening bribery scandal involving Kia and its parent company -- Hyundai. Bert Brantley, a spokesman for the Georgia Department of Economic Development, says the groundbreaking ceremony was to take place on April 26th. The state has not set a new date for the event. Brantley also says Kia officials have assured Georgia the groundbreaking delay will not cause a delay in the overall project.
