Tuscaloosa AL – Despite recent rainfall, the southeast continues to be unusually dry according to the U-S Drought Monitor. In Alabama, most areas have normal moisture levels, but some spots are drier than usual. The southeast normally gets most of its rainfall in the fall and winter, and the water recharges lakes, rivers and groundwater supplies. That didn't happen this time, though, and the dry conditions have continued into the spring. That's a major concern for farmers, who are already facing financial pressure due to higher fuel and fertilizer prices.
