State Will Have Earlier Presidential Primaries

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Alabama's voters will be among the first in the nation to cast their votes in the 2008 presidential preference primaries. The legislature approved a bill overnight that would change Alabama's election from the first Tuesday in June to the first Tuesday in February. That will move Alabama from having one of the nation's last primaries to having one of the first. Governor Bob Riley has said he will sign the bill. The change is expected to cost more than three million dollars, but Riley says that will be offset by the amount of money and time presidential candidates spend in Alabama.
