Mobile, AL – Mobile County is not at all pleased about a plan to move Alabama's presidential preference primaries. The legislature passed a bill this week that would move the state's 2008 presidential primary from June to the first Tuesday in February. Guess what? That's also Fat Tuesday. There are concerns that trying to hold an election during Mardi Gras would be a complete disaster. A spokesman for Governor Bob Riley says the governor supports the change and intends to sign it into law. But, the governor says he's willing to search for a compromise with Mobile officials.
