Montgomery, AL – Nick Bailey says he was the one -- not former Governor Don Siegelman -- who approved more than 400-thousand dollars in fake vouchers for a developer with a contract to build a state warehouse in Montgomery. Bailey is a former aide to Siegelman who is testifying for the prosecution in the corruption case. Bailey has said Siegelman and former chief of staff Paul Hamrick had an agreement to do favors for Lanny Young, whose construction firm received the contract to build the warehouse. Bailey did admit that he was often in serious debt, and he took more than 200-thousand dollars in bribes. Defense attorneys are trying to show that Bailey took bribes and other favors to help his own finances.
