Testimony Resumes Wednesday in Corruption Trial

By Alabama Public Radio

Montgomery, AL – Testimony is scheduled to resume at 8:30 Wednesday morning in the government corruption trial in Montgomery federal court. A former official with the investment banking firm U-B-S testified yesterday. He said former HealthSouth chief financial officer Mike Martin used profanity and threats to pressure his company to make a 250-thousand dollar donation to former Governor Don Siegelman's lottery campaign. Prosecutors argue that the donation, which ultimately came through another company, was part of a half-million dollar payback to get Siegelman to appoint then-HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy to a hospital regulatory board. Siegelman, Scrushy and two former Cabinet officers are on trial on federal charges.
