Athens AL – The Watts Bar Nuclear Plant was shut down by the Tennessee Valley Authority after a problem was discovered with one of the reactor's turbines. The plant was turned off Tuesday because that was vibrating too much. A Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesperson says the turbine problem did not pose a danger. The Commission also says TVA responded appropriately by shutting down the reactor. The shutdown will cost TVA about 1-million dollars a day to replace the 12-hundred megawatts of power Watts Bar generates.
