Teen Dies Jumping From Cliff at Lake Martin

By Alabama Public Radio

Lake Martin AL – Alabama Marine Police say an Ohio teenager drowned yesterday after jumping off from a cliff at Lake Martin. 16-year-old Kyle Reeves died yesterday after jumping from Acapulco Rock ... a 50-foot cliff at one of the lake's popular swimming areas. Authorities say Reeves hit the water and never resurfaced. It was the first drowning at Acapulco Rock in almost ten years ... however it also it marked the third time in the past three weeks where someone was either injured or died from jumping off the rock. Two weeks ago, a 36-year-old Montgomery man broke his back jumping from the rock. About a week earlier, a 15-year-old girl suffered a similar injury. Authorities believe others have also been hurt, but have not reported it.
