Dog Food Lawsuit Filed

By Alabama Public Radio

Fort Payne AL – A woman from Fort Payne has filed a lawsuit against Missouri-based Diamond Pet Foods Inc. over claims the company produced contaminated dog food that killed two of her dogs. Shelia Barnes says the company knew its product contained deadly levels of a fungus that grows on spoiled corn ... corn is one of the ingredients in the company's food. The lawsuit alleges Diamond knew of the tainted products in September 2005, but continued to sell it until December 2005. Barnes attorney say that recall was at the request of the Food and Drug Administration. A Diamond spokesperson says there are similar lawsuits pending across the country, but declined further comment.
