Lake Martin AL – Alabama Power Company officials have decided against fencing off Chimney Rock Island or posting warning signs at a cliff known as Acapulco Rock at Lake Martin. In the past three weeks, there's been one fatality and a handful of injuries, including a broken back ... as swimmers try to leap from the 60-foot cliff. However, a company spokesman says the reservoirs are waterways open to the public for recreation. He also says people are responsible for their own actions. Alabama law does NOT require property owners to provide safety measures for others using their land for recreation.
