Montgomery, AL – Today (Tuesday) is the second day of a two-day trip to Alabama for former Virginia governor and potential presidential candidate Mark Warner. Warner is the latest in a series of potential presidential candidates who've paid visits to the state. Warner describes himself as a red state Democrat because he carried a state that has a Republican Legislature and that traditionally votes Republican in presidential races. The co-founder of Nextel says he's got a business background that can appeal to Southern voters. And he says he's got a successful record of recruiting businesses to rural areas of Virginia. During his term, long-standing double-digit unemployment rates ended in every rural county but one. Warner visited Hunstville and Mobile Monday. Visits to Montgomery and Birmingham are on his schedule for today.
