Ala. Democrats Look Toward Bright Future

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – The sun seems a little brighter these days for Alabama Democrats. Plagued for years by rumors of their extinction, Democrats in the state say the results of last week's election show they're here to stay. Democrats won the races for chief justice and lieutenant governor, and they maintained control of the Alabama Legislature. The chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party, Joe Turnham, says the results show that the Republican tactic of simply labeling their opponents as liberal doesn't always work. But the chairman of the Alabama Republican Party disagrees that the election went poorly for his party. Tim Howe points to Gov. Bob Riley's lopsided win as proof that Republicans were the big winners in the state.
