Auburn, AL – A state senator has been paid 665 dollars a month by a private military school and at the same time sponsored legislation to help the school receive state funding.
State Senator Ted Little of Auburn has for years sponsored bills to provide state funding to Lyman Ward Military Academy at Camp Hill. It's one of only two private schools that continues to receive state funding.
Lyman Ward is located in Little's Senate district.
Little has been on the payroll at Lyman Ward since 1988 - before he became a legislator. Little says he lectures at the school on government issues at least once a month.
Little has introduced this session a bill to appropriate 249 thousand 760 dollars to Lyman Ward Military Academy from the Education Trust Fund. Little said even though the school is private, the appropriation has been a regular feature in the state budgets since 1914.
Lyman Ward is a military boarding school with less than 300 students from all over the country.
