By Alabama Public Radio

Tuscaloosa AL – Former Governor Don Siegelman and former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy face heavy penalties proposed by prosecutors. Prosecutors are seeking a 30-year prison sentence and a $1 million fine for Siegelman and a 25-year term and a $7.2 million fine for Scrushy. The two men were convicted last June on bribery and conspiracy charges. Sentencing recommendations was filed Friday to U.S. District Judge Mark Fuller. Restitution of $5.2 million from Siegelman and $628,000 from Scrushy is also being recommended.
Siegelman's attorneys say they are seeking probation. Scrushy's attorneys were not immediately available for comment. The men have said they plan to appeal their convictions. They face sentencing June 26.
