Tuscaloosa, AL – The city of Tuscaloosa is out nearly 10-thousand dollars after someone forged checks with the signature of the mayor.
The forged checks were cashed against an account with the city's Water and Sewer Department's. The fund typically is used to provide refunds to customers.
But police say someone created fake checks bearing the forged signature of Mayor Walt Maddox. And the city was missing 99-hundred-38 dollars before authorities realized what had happened.
Police say the forged checks were cashed at a Wal-Mart store in Northport.
