Birmingham, AL – The list of candidates in the Birmingham mayor's race is growing less than four months before the election.
Three candidates -- City Councilman William Bell, lawyer Patrick Cooper and Jefferson County Commissioner Larry Langford -- officially have announced plans to run.
Incumbent Mayor Bernard Kincaid, City Council member Valerie Abbott and Council President Carole Smitherman all say they expect to make runs for the city's top office.
Kincaid wants another four years in office and says he's likely to announce his bid next month, adding: ''I'm willing to put my record against anyone.''
Smitherman, who lost to Kincaid in 2003 by about 4,000 votes, has set up a Smitherman for Mayor Committee.
