Troy, AL – Troy city officials are worried that Troy Regional Medical Center will be left in critical financial shape if an effort by a group of local doctors to purchase the hospital falls through.
City Council president Johnny Witherington said so far they've received limited information as to what Attentus Healthcare, the hospital's current owners, plan to do if the effort fails.
The InMed Group of Montgomery officially pulled out of talks with Attentus last week about buying the medical facility. Several members of the medical staff were opposed to the sale, and efforts are being made among some doctors to form a group to buy the hospital. But the doctors have not yet formed a limited liability corporation and they can't enter a letter of intent with Attentus until they do.
With the hospital's patient census currently about 15, city leaders said they are worried Attentus can't afford to operate T-R-M-C at its current levels much longer unless a sale is made soon.
Troy Mayor Jimmy Lunsford believes cutbacks are likely to be made soon if the hospital is not sold.
