Saban Says Discipline Will Be Handled Internally

By Associated Press

Hoover, AL – Alabama coach Nick Saban said three players arrested recently won't face suspensions if they fulfill certain unspecified obligations.

He said all discipline would be handled internally, within the team, and would not be a public spectacle.

Defensive linemen Brandon Fanney and Brandon Deaderick and running back Roy Upchurch were arrested following an altercation outside an off-campus bar earlier this month. Deaderick was charged with giving a fake name to the police, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. Fanney and Upchurch were charged with disorderly conduct.

Saban has established a Peer Intervention Group made up of 15 players who help deal with disciplinary issues. Both center Antoine Caldwell and cornerback Simeon Castille serve on the panel.

Neither the players nor Saban would discuss what action was taken against the three arrested.
