Birmingham AL – The fired principal of Hoover High School filed suit against the city school board seeking reinstatement to the position, which he lost amid an investigation at the football powerhouse.
Richard Bishop, who was dismissed last week, seeks a three-year contract and compensatory damages in the complaint, filed Tuesday in circuit court.
Bishop, who was hired last August, contends the board violated his contract by not evaluating his performance according to a process laid out by the State Board of Education. He also contends the board failed to abide by a non-renewal clause.
Hoover school board member A.W. Bolt said the board hired Bishop for a period of one year and probation, meaning it had the right to terminate the contract.
"I guess we'll see him at the courthouse and let the courts decide the matter," said Bolt.
Bishop's attorneys contend he was a "fall guy" for the investigation into alleged impropriety in athletics and academics at Hoover High. Board officials have denied that Bishop's dismissal was linked to the investigation.
