Abducted Child Found Safe

By Associated Press

Calera AL – A child was briefly the focus of a statewide Amber Alert on Sunday until she was found safe.

The 1-year-old girl was inside a pickup truck reported stolen in Calera Sunday morning. The truck and child later the same day were found at a convenience store in Brighton.

Calera Police Capt. Rick Rollan said someone heard the girl crying and contacted authorities. The child was taken to Children's Hospital in Birmingham for evaluation.

Police searched for a male suspect, described as white, about six feet tall, wearing a gray shirt.

When the Amber Alert was issued, Calera police, in a written statement, said the truck was stolen with the child inside at 8:25 a.m. from a location off Exit 228 of Interstate 65.
