Birmingham, AL – The Internal Revenue Service is warning taxpayers about a new Internet scam. It involves an e-mail supposedly from the IRS in which an individual can made $80 by filling out an online customer satisfaction survey.
Spokesman Dan Boone in Birmingham says its a hoax - a scam to try to get a taxpayer's personal information. He said many of these scams are originating from more than two dozen countries. Boone said taxpayers can report such scams to the IRS by the sending the e-mail to the agency.
He said the IRS has a new address for forwarding such reports. It's phishing@irs.gov.
