Millbrook AL – Two men were being held Friday on capital murder charges in the killing of a Wetumpka man who was shot in the back of the head as he carried newly purchased diapers and dog food to his pickup truck in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Calvin McMillan, 18, and Rondarell Williams, 28, are accused of killing James Brian Martin, 23, and stealing his pickup Wednesday night. Investigators said McMillan is the suspected gunman.
Randall Houston, the Elmore County district attorney, said the suspects apparently wanted to steal the victim's burgundy Ford F-150 pickup truck.
"He was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. We feel he was picked completely at random," he said. "He was coming home from a (Biscuits) baseball game, and he called his wife to tell her he was stopping by Wal-Mart to get some diapers and dog food."
McMillan and Williams were apprehended after a manhunt Thursday afternoon in east Montgomery.
