FBI Stays Quiet About North Alabama Operations

By Associated Press

Boaz, AL – The FBI remains mum about a huge dragnet that started earlier this week in north Alabama. ''Operation Clean Sweep'' as its called, began Tuesday and involved more than 40 federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

The FBI did confirm they were operating in Etowah County Wednesday, but said little else. There are reports that the task force expects to make more than 100 arrests, mainly on drug charges. Operations so far have been conducted in Marshall and DeKalb counties, but it is not necessarily limited to that area.

Air and ground operations, including roadblocks on highways, have been used in the search for suspects.

An FBI spokesman said a news conference to outline the illicit activities will be held at a later date at the Boaz Law Enforcement Training Center.
