Undated, AL – Officials stepped up monitoring and preparations Thursday as a storm system off the coast of Florida threatens to approach areas still recovering from Hurricane Katrina.
The National Weather Service says conditions are becoming favorable for a subtropical or a tropical system to form as the storm moves westward in the Gulf of Mexico.
Computer models show possible tracks into areas from near the Florida-Alabama line into Mississippi or Louisiana.
