Mercedes Passes Milestone in Tuscaloosa County

By Associated Press

Vance, AL – Mercedes-Benz will mark a milestone in the Vance community Tuesday: its 1 millionth vehicle built in Alabama.

The German automaker opened its plant in Tuscaloosa County 10 years ago. Since then, it's grown to employ more than 4,000 people producing the ML350, the R-Class and GL Class sports utility vehicles.

A study showed the $1 billion Vance factory and its suppliers are responsible for creating nearly 42,000 jobs. Last year, the plant produced more than 173,000 vehicles.
