By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – A member of the governor's Cabinet, Children's Affairs Commissioner Richard Dorrough died Wednesday. He was 61.

Governor Riley says Dorrough died after a long battle with cancer. The governor says Dorrough had a heart of gold and worked hard to improve the lives of children.

Dorrough served as a family court judge in Montgomery County for more than 20 years before the governor appointed him to his Cabinet in 2005.

Dorrough's funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Montgomery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home.
