Selma – The city of Selma will be in the spotlight in early March as its citizens prepares to remember the 43rd anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery Voting Rights March.
Among the celebrities and civil rights activists expected to attend are hip-hop artists OutKast, Sean Combs and Master P. Others on the invitation list include businessman Russell Simmons, Reverend Al Sharpton and author and historian Dr. Cornell West.
Organizers said the theme is "One Mic, One Movement." It seeks to bridge the gap between the Civil Rights Movement and the hip-hop generation.
The four-day series of events get underway March 7th with a mass meeting at Tabernacle Baptist Church and concludes with the annual Jubilee Bridge Crossing of the Edmund Pettus Bridge on Sunday, March 9th.
The bridge crossing marks the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday on March 7th, 1965, when Alabama state troopers beat civil rights marchers.
