Montgomery, AL – Presidential candidates are busily scheduling trips to Alabama to rally support for the state's primary in one week.
Democrat John Edwards will be at the Huntsville airport Thursday morning for a news conference. A campaign spokeswoman says Edwards is also planning a speech Saturday afternoon in Birmingham.
Republican John McCain is planning a speech Saturday afternoon at the Birmingham Sheraton. His state campaign chairman, Attorney General Troy King, says the 1:30 event will be free and open to the public.
The details of Edwards' visit to Birmingham on Saturday have not been announced.
Alabama's presidential primary is February 5. But voters in Mobile and Baldwin counties can vote tomorrow because the primary conflicts with Mardi Gras celebrations in the two counties.
