Tuscaloosa, AL – Fidel Castro's resignation as president of Cuba made international headlines Tuesday (2/19). President Bush expressed hope that it would be the beginning of a democratic transition for the country. Alabama has a stake in the future of Cuba. During recent years, it has emerged as a significant importer of Alabama products. State Agriculture and Industries Commissioner Ron Sparks has made several trips to Cuba and says the country is ripe for change.
