Agriculture Commissioner Discusses Change in Cuba

Tuscaloosa, AL – Fidel Castro's resignation as president of Cuba made international headlines Tuesday (2/19). President Bush expressed hope that it would be the beginning of a democratic transition for the country. Alabama has a stake in the future of Cuba. During recent years, it has emerged as a significant importer of Alabama products. State Agriculture and Industries Commissioner Ron Sparks has made several trips to Cuba and says the country is ripe for change.

OUTRO: Ron Sparks is Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries. He was speaking about Alabama's trade ties with Cuba and how they might improve now that Fidel Castro has resigned as that country's president.
