Montgomery, AL – A bill passed by the Alabama House to ban the transfer of money between political action committees has been rewritten by a Senate committee.
The Senate Governmental Affairs Committee voted 7-3 Tuesday to rewrite the bill so that political parties and legislative caucuses would not be considered PACs. The rewritten version would allow political parties and legislative caucuses to receive money from PACs, mingle it with other money and then donate to PACs.
The committee's chairman, Democratic Sen. Wendell Mitchell of Luverne, said political parties and legislative caucuses must be excluded for the bill to get enough votes to pass.
