Gov. Riley Plans to Move Forward with Water Lawsuit

Montgomery, AL – An attorney for Alabama Gov. Bob Riley will tell a judge that the governor wants to move forward with a federal lawsuit that seeks to resolve a long-standing water dispute with Georgia.

Riley spokesman Jeff Emerson says moving forward with the lawsuit does not mean Riley wants to abandon ongoing negotiations with the governors of Georgia and Florida. The suit was filed against the U.S. Corps of Engineers in 1990.

An attorney for Riley in the water dispute, Mark Lembke, will attend a status conference Friday afternoon in the chambers of U.S. District Judge Karon Bowdre in Birmingham.
