State House Passes Tanker Resolution

By Associated Press

Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Senate has passed a resolution encouraging U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to accept the Air Force's decision to award a tanker contract to Northrop Grumman Corp. and EADS.

The resolution sponsored by Democratic Majority Leader Zeb Little of Cullman breezed through the Senate without a dissenting vote Thursday. Democrats and Republicans supported the resolution because the tanker will be assembled in Mobile.

Pelosi has said Congress should examine the Air Force's decision to bypass Boeing for the contract and go with a partnership that includes a French company.

Little called it irresponsible to try to overturn the contract. He said a congressional hearing would only delay the creation of 2,000 jobs in the Mobile area.
