Montgomery County, AL – A natural gas pipeline ruptured last night, forcing dozens of residents to leave their homes in south Montgomery County. Sheriff's officials said it happened at about 8:30 p.m. in the Snowdoun community, just off Highway 331.
Authorities said someone driving a sport utility vehicle struck the pipeline near Butler Mill Road and Old McGhee Road. There were no reports of injuries. The rupture did not cause an explosion. Gas company workers shut off the gas main and the emergency situation ended about an hour later. Authorities are still looking for the driver.
Snowdoun is located about 12 miles south of Montgomery.
