Montgomery, AL – A campaign finance reform bill to make it harder for candidates to hide the source of their money appears to have little chance of passing going into the final day of the 2008 regular session of the Legislature.
Different versions of the bill passed the House and the Senate in February. A House-Senate conference committee has been trying to work out differences between the two versions for almost three months and appears to be deadlocked.
The sponsor, Rep. Jeff McLaughlin of Guntersville, said he was not hopeful when asked about the chances the bill will come out of conference committee and come up for a vote in the House and Senate Monday.
