Montgomery, AL – The Alabama Legislature is poised to wrap up its special session Saturday by approving the state education budget.
Legislative committees approved the budget and other related bills Friday and put them in line for final passage on Saturday. If the bills succeed on Saturday, the Legislature will be able to wrap up its special session in five days. That's the fastest time allowed by state law.
Senate President Pro Tem Hinton Mitchem says legislators are ready to conclude the session and return home on Saturday.
Gov. Bob Riley called the Legislature into special session Tuesday because the Legislature's regular session ended May 19 with the Senate failing to pass an education budget.
