Tuscaloosa, AL – Trustees of the University of Alabama System have approved double-digit increases in tuition for all three campuses this fall.
The trustees agreed Friday in Tuscaloosa to authorize increases recommended by officials of the campuses in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Huntsville.
University officials recommended the increases after the Alabama Legislature cut funding for all public universities in the state by 11 percent for the fiscal year starting Oct. 1.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville is raising tuition 14 percent for in-state students for the fall semester. The University of Alabama is going up 12 percent, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham is increasing nearly 11 percent.
Out-of-state students would also pay more: 9 percent at UA, 11 percent at UAB and 19 percent at UAH.
