Birmingham Hospital Will Be Sold

By Associated Press

Birmingham, AL – Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham is returning to single ownership. Under a deal announced Monday, Baptist Health Systems, Inc. would sell its 35 percent interest in Trinity to Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems.

Terms were not disclosed.

Trinity Medical Center is a 560 bed facility in East Birmingham.

Baptist Health and Community Health officials already have entered a joint venture to build a $316 million, 424 bed hospital in Irondale.

The new facility would replace Trinity and is expected to be completed sometime in 2011.
