Washington Co. Suit Accuses Ciba Of Pollution

Mobile, AL – Some 100 McIntosh-area residents have sued Ciba Corp., claiming that the company contaminated their land with dangerous chemicals for decades.

The pharmaceutical and manufacturing company contends that the suit is too late because the alleged damage occurred more than two decades ago

The complaint in Washington County Circuit Court alleges that Ciba engaged in ``wrongful conduct'' that left hundreds of acres affected.

The suit names several other companies that worked in Washington County with Ciba, and former plant Manager Alan Lee Heffernan. Ciba attorneys filed a response last week arguing that the suit is unclear and was filed too late.

Mobile lawyer Grey Redditt Jr. wrote that the plaintiffs' claims stem from activities at the plant that ended more than 20 years ago.
