Montevallo, AL – The Alabama National Cemetery has been formally dedicated.
Scores of veterans joined dignitaries for Sunday's ceremony in Montevallo.
The 479-acre site has been named by some as the ''Arlington of the South.''
Cemetery Director Quincy Whitehead said more than 10-thousand gravesites will be available when construction is completed. He said the first burials could take place at the end of the year or in early 2009.
The Montevallo site is the state's third national cemetery for veterans.
