Tuscaloosa AL – A hot stagnant air mass has prompted Birmingham regional authorities to issue a Code Orange Air Quality Alert.
Officials said ozone and particle pollution Monday in Jefferson and Shelby counties could be unhealthy for people with respiratory problems including children, older adults and adults who spend a lot of time outside.
The Alabama Partners for Clean Air ask the public to reduce driving and avoid using gas powered engines and eliminate all outdoor burning.
Many areas are expected to see temperatures around 100 degrees Monday and Tuesday. Heat indicies could climb higher than 107. Outside activity should be restricted and monitored. Elderly residents may also be at risk.
