Montgomery, AL – Montgomery's Hyundai plant is adjusting to shifting consumer demand by producing more Sonata sedans and fewer Santa Fe SUVs.
A plant spokesman said the shift allows the plant to avoid production cuts. The other two auto manufacturers with plants in the state - Honda and Mercedes-Benz - announced production cuts at their Alabama plants earlier this month.
Over the past 11 months, an increasing percentage of the vehicles produced by Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama has been Sonatas. Plant spokesman Robert Burns said that trend is continuing.
Burns said there are plans for the plant to continue having two shifts a day with a daily output of about 1,000 vehicles.
