Former Revenue Clerk Going to Prison

By Associated Press

Talladega, AL – A judge has sentenced a former Talladega County Revenue Department clerk to three years in prison for stealing department funds.

The sentence was handed down Wednesday for 37-year-old Stacy S. Hall, who had pleaded guilty to first degree theft of property.

A report by the state examiners of public accounts had revealed that she took $45,000 from the county revenue departmetns Childersburg office, where she was the only employee.

Hall's defense attorney Rombert Rumsey had asked for leniency, saying Hall has two children and the money she took generally was used for her family. Rumsey also emphasized Hall's otherwise clean record.

The report showed Hall took money over a period of two years. She would collect the proper amount from a customer but then alter the records showing the amount due and keep the difference.
