Carnival Will Operate from Mobile Temporarily

By Associated Press

New Orleans, LA – Carnival's Fantasy cruise ship will operate out of Mobile, Alabama through September 1 because of an oil spill on the Mississippi River.

The ship is usually based in New Orleans - but hasn't departed from or arrived in the city since a tanker and barge collision caused an oil spill in the river on July 23.

Port of New Orleans officials say the nine diverted cruises will cost the port about $315,000 in fees - and the city will lose an undetermined amount from passengers who spend time in New Orleans before and after the cruises.
