Northport, AL – Gov. Bob Riley joins members of his study group on school bus seat belts for a presentation at Northport Elementary School.
At Monday's meeting in Northport, Dan Turner of the University Transportation Center for Alabama will discuss a three-year pilot study looking at student response to seat belts on school buses. Officials also will check out two school buses that have been equipped with seat belts.
Madison and Decatur are among the 10 school systems in Alabama participating in the pilot program.
The group formed in the wake of a deadly school bus crash in Huntsville in November 2006. Four girls were killed in the crash and dozens more students were injured when the bus nose-dived off an elevated stretch of Interstate 565.
