Drought Conditions Worsen in Alabama

Birmingham AL – There has been a significant increase in the drought's impact on Alabama during the past week. September was labeled one of the driest on record in the state.

Last month was the third driest for Tuscaloosa, sixth driest for Birmingham and 8th driest on record for Anniston.

The U.S. Drought Monitor Survey reports the drought has grown from 50 percent of the state to 93 percent.

The worst drought conditions D-2 remains in the northeast corner of Alabama. The survey said stream flow, soil moisture and pasture and range land conditions continue to deteriorate.
