Tuscaloosa Builds On Triathlon Success

By Associated Press

Tuscaloosa AL – The U.S. Olympic Triathlon trials will be held in Tuscaloosa in 2009 and 2010.

The west Alabama city also will host the Collegiate Championships in 2011 and 2012.

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox made the announcement Tuesday. He said the events will pump millions into the local economy.

Triathlon officials said the city's enthusiasm and experience with major sporting events, including hosting the U.S. Olympic Triathlon Trials in 2007, helped secure the deal.

The triathlon features three events distance running, bicycling and swimming.
